Maryland residents who make charitable gifts to their local community foundation may qualify for Endow Maryland Tax Credit Program which rewards donors with a 25 percent tax credit on state taxes. Additionally, donors may also be eligible for a federal tax deduction.
Locally, charitable gifts of $500 or more made to qualifying programs at the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore can benefit both donors and Lower Shore charitable causes.
“Gifts made to these funds help support the most urgent local needs in our area through responsive grantmaking,” says Erica Joseph, CFES President. “Your gift makes a difference today and tomorrow, supporting the many needs that help our Lower Shore communities thrive.”
In 2025, grants from the Community Foundation’s responsive programs provided more than 200 awards totaling nearly $800,000. These grants benefited initiatives including youth services, emergency food and housing, health initiatives, education, animal welfare, the arts, and more.
Endow Maryland tax credits are limited so interested donors are encouraged to call the Foundation about this opportunity or ask their financial advisor to reach out. Contributions of $10,000 or more allow the donors to create a fund, in their name or their family’s name, that will support the Lower Shore today and tomorrow.
“Gifts made through this program are endowed, which means instead of being used just once, it is invested and earns interest each year. This allows your original gift to grow and make an even greater difference over time,” explains Joseph. “By creating lasting support for today and the future of our region, your gift helps generate flexible, long-term resources that strengthen our community.”
