Community Foundation Awards Disaster Relief Funds to Somerset County Long Term Recovery

The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore awarded $30,000 to the Somerset County Long Term Recovery Committee to assist in disaster efforts related to Hurricane Sandy.

Following Hurricane Sandy in late 2012, the Community Foundation received contributions of nearly $34,000 and provided an additional $5,000 to the Disaster Relief Fund. Generous individuals, businesses, civic organizations and other foundations responded from the Lower Eastern Shore and across the State of Maryland to support the Fund.

The Somerset County Long Term Recovery Committee will utilize these funds to support local rebuilding efforts and to supplement resources from FEMA and other disaster relief agencies. The balance of the disaster relief funds were distributed through small grants for emergency needs immediately following the storm.

According to Doug Wilson, Community Foundation President, “We commend the Somerset County Long Term Committee members for their continued hard work and commitment to support Crisfield and the surrounding areas through their recovery efforts.”
