Community Foundation Approves Small Grants Awards to Area Nonprofits


The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore announces the award of funds from the Small Grants Program to the following local area nonprofits.

The organizations include:

  • Wicomico County Humane Society – $2,000 from the Bailey Wicomico County Fund for computer and audio/visual equipment to support community outreach efforts.

  • Chesapeake Housing Mission – $1,800 from the Somerset County Fund to support the construction of wheelchair ramps for families in need in Somerset County.

  • HALO – $2,000 from the Biron Wicomico County Fund to support the conversion of an empty lot on the property of the HALO Day Center Property to an organic garden to provide fresh food for the HALO Cafe. Salisbury Middle School – $600 from the Biron

  • Wicomico County Fund to provide the book, I Beat the Odds, written by Michael Oher, Baltimore Ravens football player and actor, to their students.

  • Virginia Space Flight Academy (for Eastern Shore Robotics – Wicomico County Team) - $1,000 from the Biron Wicomico County Fund to support this STEM program that engages high school students with local engineering firms and NASA to compete in robotics competitions at the state and national level.

  • Worcester County GOLD - $2,000 from the Help Your Neighbor Fund to provide support for their Emergency Assistance Program.

  • Holly Center Auxiliary - $500 from Technical

  • Mini Grants to support the purchase of a new laptop to assist with outreach and education programs for schools and community groups.

  • Somerset County Arts Council - $150 from Technical Mini Grants to support the purchase of software to assist with the organization’s day to day operations.

  • Seton Center Catholic Charities - $2,000 from the Help Your Neighbor Fund to purchase food items for the organization’s emergency food pantry.

The Small Grants Funds are set up to provide support to address a wide range of needs including pilot projects, emergencies, organizational improvement, capacity building and equipment purchases. Grants are typically in the $200 -$2,000 range.
