What Others Say:
My objective is to make a difference in the life of a few students and their families. Working with the scholarship fund, the Community Foundation, and the fund's scholarship selection committee has been a rewarding experience, the best part of which is knowing that the program will continue in perpetuity.

Worcester Establishes Scholarship for Future Teachers
March 31, 2009

Applications are now being accepted from graduating seniors of Worcester County Public Schools for a new scholarship fund for students who wish to receive college certification to serve as future teachers in a critical shortage subject area in Worcester County.

The Board of Education of Worcester County has established a permanent scholarship fund at the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore for students graduating from the county’s public schools who are pursuing teacher certification in college.  Successful applicants must agree to teach in a subject area of critical shortage in Worcester County after graduating from college.

Scholarship applications are available from the guidance offices in Pocomoke, Snow Hill, and Stephen Decatur High Schools.  The deadline for applications to be submitted for consideration is April 15th.

Qualified applicants must have an overall 3.0 grade point average in grades 10-12.  A 500 word essay on why the applicant wants to be a teacher and why education is important to the community and society is also required.  The annual scholarship award is $1,000.

Successful applicants will be selected by a Scholarship Advisory Committee designated by the Worcester County school board.  Anyone wanting further information about the Worcester County Teacher Scholarship should contact the guidance office of their respective high school.
