The Sunrise Rotary has established an
endowment fund in their organization’s name through the Community Foundation of
the Eastern Shore. In partnership with
the Community Foundation, the Sunrise Rotary will continue to award
scholarships to benefit local students on an annual basis. The Sunrise Rotary’s annual junior golf
tournament on August 11 at Nutter’s Crossing and other fundraising activities
keep this scholarship active so that the Sunrise Rotary is assured of being
able to perpetuate these youth scholarships into the future.
Bill Ferguson, President of the
Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club, states that “the Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club
is proud to partner with the Community Foundation to ensure that our
scholarship is awarded each and every year.
This Club is committed to our community and now the impact will be
shared with generations to come.”
“Investing in leadership to address
community needs is at the forefront of what we do here at the Community
Foundation,” said Spicer Bell, President, Community Foundation of the Eastern
Shore. “We look forward to working with
the Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club to build a sound Fund that helps meet the
community’s needs forever.”
The Community Foundation is proud
to now be the steward for 500 such funds established by local individuals,
businesses, civic organizations and local nonprofits that support charitable
activities across a broad spectrum of interests. In 2010, the Community Foundation distributed
gifts, grants and scholarships of more than $4.1 million dollars—including $200,000
in scholarships to more than 150 local students anxious to attend local and regional
colleges and trade schools. Since 1997,
the Community Foundation has distributed 913 scholarships worth $1.3 million dollars
to local students.
Recently ranked in the top 100
community foundations in the nation for receiving the most gifts per capita,
the Community Foundation is continuing a strong tradition of philanthropy on the
Lower Shore.
