Foundation Elects Four New Board Members

Newly elected members to the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore are: (l to r) John J. Allen, David A. Vorhis, John P. Barrett and James R. Thomas, Jr., P.E. In Fiscal 2009 the Foundation made a total of 884 grants to the community representing $3.3 million.
The Community Foundation of the
Eastern Shore recently elected four new board members for three year terms. Elected to the Foundation’s board were John J. Allen, Jr. of
Seaford ,
DE ; James R. Thomas, Jr., P.E. and David A. Vorhis of
Salisbury, MD ; and John P. Barrett of
Berlin, MD . James R. Bergey, a resident of
Berlin and owner of Bergey & Company, PA, was re-elected to serve another three-year term on the board.
John Allen, Jr. is the vice-president of Delmarva Power’s
Bay
Region
Service
Territory . His community involvement includes membership on the University of Maryland System Foundation Board, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Board of Visitors and UMES Business Executive Advisory Council, Salisbury University’s ShoreEnergy Steering Committee, the Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development Board, the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lower Eastern Shore, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Executive Board of the Greater Salisbury Committee, and the Chesapeake Bay Girl Scouts Lower Shore Advisory Committee.
James Thomas, Jr., P.E. is President and CEO of George, Miles & Buhr, LLC, Architects & Engineers. He is the immediate past chair of the Greater Salisbury Committee, immediate past chair of the Mid-Atlantic Institute of Space and Technology; a member of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, and Chair of the Board of Trustees of Trinity United Methodist Church.
David Vorhis is a partner in the law firm of Webb, Burnett, Cornbrooks, Wilber, Vorhis, Douse & Mason, LLP. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Peninsula Regional Medical Center Foundation and is on the Local Advisory Council of Wor-Wic Community College.
John Barrett is a co-owner of Barrett Chevrolet, Inc, Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep in
Berlin . John is a member of the Ocean City Kiwanis Club, the March of Dimes Walk Committee, the Berlin Planning and Zoning Commission, and is a member of St. John Neuman Catholic Church.
