Ocean City attorney recognized for efforts to promote charitable giving

Ocean City attorney Raymond C. Shockley received the 2007 Chairman’s Award from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore at the Foundation’s Annual Meeting and Award’s Luncheon held recently at The Fountain’s in Salisbury.

The award was presented by Art Cooley, Foundation Board Chair.  Shockley is a partner in the law firm of Williams, Moore, Shockley & Harrison, LLP.  He served on the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors for 12 years until 2005. He also served on several standing committees and was the secretary of the Foundation’s Executive Committee.

Cooley praised Shockley for the support he continues to provide as an ambassador for the Foundation and for his promotion of charitable giving in the community.  “His advocacy has enabled the Community Foundation to establish relationships with many individuals that have subsequently established their own permanent legacies,” Cooley said.  Cooley also noted Shockley has been responsible for creating over $2 million in endowed charitable funds at the Foundation.

Shockley, and his wife Susan, are members of the Community Foundation’s The Legacy Society, which recognizes those who have notified the organization, in writing, of their intent to make a deferred charitable gift to the Foundation by will, trust, or other estate plan.
