I feel that the foundation has helped my organization in the past. If it was not for the grants we received the progress we have made would have not happened.

Foundation Announces Fall Nonprofit Training Schedule
August 24, 2009

The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore has announced training opportunities that are available this Fall for local nonprofit staff and CEOs.  All the sessions will be held at the Foundation’s Eastern Shore Nonprofit Support Center in Salisbury’s East Park Professional Center.

Registrations are now being accepted from nonprofit organizations in Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester County for training seminars and a series of free "Lunch and Learn" sessions that provide opportunities for sharing new information and networking opportunities.  Advanced registration is required and space is limited.

The first Lunch and Learn sessions will introduce the executive directors and volunteer managers of local nonprofits to the Foundation’s new " ShoreCAN Volunteer Center".  Attendees will learn how nonprofits can enhance and benefit from this resource that is available throughout the Lower Eastern Shore.

Since the new ShoreCAN Volunteer Center has the potential to impact so many local nonprofits, this first fall Lunch and Learn topic is offered on two dates.  The first session is on Wednesday, September 9.  The second session is offered on Wednesday, September 23.  Lunch is provided and both sessions are from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Registration is free.

Among the training opportunities during the fall schedule are the following:
  • "Online and On Mission: Practical Web Strategy for Breakthrough Results."  The seminar will be held on Monday, September 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature David Gammel, an internationally known web strategist.  The first 25 paid registrants will receive a copy of David Gammel’s newly released book on web strategies.  Registration is $30 per person and lunch is included.

  • An encore and expanded training seminar of what nonprofits need to do to ensure compliance with the IRS’ new Form 990 will be held on Thursday, October 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Registration is $25 per person and lunch is included. The new Form 990 is required for use for the first time by tax exempt organizations for tax year 2008.  This class is intended for nonprofit executives, independent auditors and managers, financial professionals working for tax exempt organizations, and persons involved in the financial governance of local nonprofits.

  • Social Media 101 will be held on Monday, November 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Social media is a white hot buzz word these days, but it can be daunting for nonprofit organizations to figure out where to start and what should be achieved.  The session will focus on practical tips and tactics that will aid any size organization. Registration is $10 per person and lunch is included.
These events and several others are offered through the Community Foundation’s Nonprofit Support Program.  The program is focused on providing services and resources to enhance the capacity of nonprofit organizations in the region through technical assistance, professional development, and continuing education.
