The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore recognized professional advisors from the region with awards for outstanding service in promoting philanthropy for the benefit of Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore.
The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore recognized
professional advisors from the region with awards for outstanding service in
promoting philanthropy for the benefit of Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore. The awards were presented at an appreciation
breakfast at the Foundation’s Nonprofit Support Center in Salisbury.
“These
awards recognize the contribution professional advisors have made in building
relationships with the Foundation and for the assistance they have provided to
their clients in establishing charitable funds for the benefit of the
community,” said Spicer Bell, President, Community Foundation.
Salisbury financial
planner Robert Dickey received the 2011
Professional Advisor of the Year award.
Dickey represented the late Bobbi Biron for many years. In addition to a generous gift to Salisbury
University, Bobbi Biron’s estate created or added to several funds at the
Foundation, including the Goslee Youth Help Fund, Poplar Hill Mansion Endowment
Fund and the Bobbi Biron Fund for the Salisbury Zoo. By referring Bobbi Biron and other clients to
the Community Foundation, Dickey has helped build a lasting legacy for the
entire community. The Community
Foundation will make a $500 grant to the nonprofit of Bob’s choice in
recognition of his award.
The
Foundation’s 2011 Professional Partner
Award was presented to T.J. Maloney.
While maintaining a successful law practice, Maloney makes a difference
in the lives of local citizens who are challenged every day. Maloney has served on the Village of Hope
Board since the late 1990’s and for the last several years has served as the
Board President during a meaningful time of transition. The Village of Hope and our community is a
better place to live because of Maloney’s vision and commitment.
M.W. “Bill” Tilghman, received the
Foundation’s 2011 Friend of the
Foundation Award. Throughout his
distinguished career, Tilghman was an advocate of charitable giving. He introduced his clients and fellow
professionals to the power of gifting appreciated assets as a way of leveraging
their legacy gifts. Local organizations
such as Salisbury University, the United Way and the Community Foundation have benefited
from the advice Bill has shared. Present
to accept the award was Bill’s son Mat Tilghman.
Community Foundation Board Chair, Jim
Almand, reiterates the importance of the collaboration between the professional
advisors and the Foundation. “Professional
advisors are in a great position to be able to promote philanthropy that
benefits our entire community. It is a partnership
that we enjoy taking the time to recognize.”
