Community Foundation Hosts Volunteer Leadership Academy

The Community Foundation is very pleased to announce the first annual Volunteer Leadership Academy and its participants. The Make a Difference Leadership Academy offers professional development, technical support, and grant funding over a six-month period. Accepted applicants will be generating community projects that will be completed on or before Make a Difference Day – The National Day to Help Others – October 27, 2012.
Participants of the 2012 Leadership Academy include: Helen Young, Stacey Weisner, Lamont Potter, Sr., Jennifer Howell, Bryant Waters, Dr. Phillip Hesser (facilitator), Alexis Dashield, Cindy Smith, Jan Bain, Terri Baker, Frances McBride, and Nancy Goldsmith. The Volunteer Leadership Academy will be led by Community Foundation program staff that will provide technical assistance and oversight during the program. Academy workshops will be facilitated by Phillip Hesser and Lois Colaprete, who both have led prior workshops at the Community Foundation. Dr. Phillip Hesser and Ms. Lois Colaprete both have extensive experience in nonprofit, government, and foundation administration.
In 2012, the Make a Difference Leadership Academy will engage volunteers in the following interest areas: youth engagement, animal welfare, youth education, historic preservation, environmental protection, community infrastructure, and community mediation. The Academy will end in November with a Celebration of Service event for all volunteers, stakeholders, and service projects.
