What Others Say:
Thank you very much for the scholarship money that was awarded to me. I am planning on attending Wor-Wic Community College for two years and then transferring to Salisbury University. While at Wor-Wic I will be majoring in nursing and my career goal is to become a forensic nurse. The money I have been awarded will definitely help me in achieving this goal.

CFES Supports Global Youth Service Day on April 16
Children and youth urged to volunteer in their local communities
March 23, 2011
The Community Foundation ShoreCAN Volunteer Network is supporting
the 23rd Annual Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) on Saturday, April
16 by promoting local volunteer projects and engaging volunteer efforts through
the ShoreCAN website.
ShoreCAN
is lending a hand by assisting volunteer efforts at four project sites
including: The Salisbury Zoo, The Maryland Food Bank, The Town of Berlin, and
the Wicomico County Tourism Pork in the Park event. Children and their families are encouraged to
participate by registering today online at http://gysd.shorecan.org
or by calling 410-742-9911. This service
day will offer fun, refreshments, and prizes.
Millions
of children and youth are partnering with schools, organizations, public
officials, media, and families to coordinate the 23rd Global Youth Service Day
(GYSD), April 15-17. GYSD is the largest service event in the world and the
only one celebrating the contributions youth make 365 days of the year.
Coordinated by Youth Service America, GYSD is now
celebrated in over 100 countries. Young people, participating in youth-led
service and service-learning initiatives, address critical issues such as
illiteracy, hunger and homelessness, childhood obesity, and preserving natural
habitats. YSA offers more than 800 grants globally to support community and
school-based programs.
“Young people in our area look for those
opportunities to make a real difference in their community. It is my belief that children and youth bring
new and innovative ideas to a situation and Global Youth Service Day helps them
to realize that their efforts do count,” said Spicer Bell, President, Community
Foundation of the Eastern Shore.
In addition to promoting Global
Youth Service Day, ShoreCAN manages a database of over 300 volunteers and 150
local nonprofits, with a wide range of service opportunities for all ages. To find out about this and other volunteer
opportunities, please visit www.shorecan.org.
