What Others Say:
"The ShoreCAN Volunteer Center was able to help Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lower Eastern Shore place two children on our waiting list with volunteer mentors this month! I wish I could show the big smiles and excitement I saw when they met their new friend for the first time!"

CFES Kicks Off 2011 Help Your Neighbor Fund Campaign
Drive to keep Help Your Neighbor campaign alive
April 1, 2011

The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore announced today that the Help Your Neighbor Fund that has been so generously supported in this community is unfortunately, running low and the Foundation is asking the community for assistance.
The Help Your Neighbor Fund was initiated by the Community Foundation in response to the dramatically increasing need for assistance required by local families and individuals who have been adversely impacted by the economy and overwhelmed traditional assistance programs.

Since its inception in 2008, the Help Your Neighbor Fund has provided $63,500 in emergency assistance to thousands of Lower Eastern Shore families and individuals to meet basic needs.

The Fund has provided assistance for utility bills, food and medical prescriptions to families and seniors in Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties who need it most.  More than 30 grants have been awarded to small local nonprofit organizations, such as Helping Hands, Worcester G.O.L.D., and Christian Shelter with a proven capacity to assure financial assistance gets to the neediest families in the area.

“It is only through invaluable partnerships and generous individuals and businesses that we can continue to make strides in the Lower Eastern Shore,” states Spicer Bell, President, Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore.  Bell continues, “Just because we put our coats away for the season, doesn’t mean we leave our neighbors out in the cold.  Helping your neighbor is a year round commitment!”

More grants are pending based on the availability of money in the Help Your Neighbor
Fund.

Please consider making a donation today to the Help Your Neighbor Fund by visiting the Community Foundation’s website at www.cfes.org/help, or calling the Foundation at 410-742-9911.
